This Eastern Screech Owl peered out of the hollow of a Cottonwood tree early one morning on the Front Range near Golden, Colorado. These owls make a soft whinny sound similar to the whinny of a horse. As this is a small owl species it stood only about 9 inches tall within the hollow.
